Okey sooo i was supposed to get furys feet done today at 12 but i told my mom to call the farrier and move it to like 12:20 becuase i didnt get out of school till 11:55(we have half days) but she didnt soo as i was getting my ride home we hit eveyr red light every slow driver possible on the rode nd i ended up being there at 12:30 only after calling my farrier to find out he thought something had come up and just left and that he would call my mom and let her know when he was coming back in a few weeks. I know i am to blame but he could have called aswell before leaving. Now i have to waite to find another farrier as this guy wont be back in town for another 2wks nd fury cant waite that long -face desk- stupid traffic..and my mom is also angry with me for not calling her to let scott know i would be late (my mom set the appt. up for 5 min after i got outta school which is a 15 min drive to the barn) even though i didnt have his number to let him kno as she didnt give me his card when i asked. Plus rowdy my favorite boy with horrid feet has to suffer even longer till we can get another guy out ...ugh im frustrated since ALOT of the farriers out here are NOT good and either trim to short/not enough or just do a royally bad job.
oi frustration with horses plus finals is guna = a major exausted me haha
Good farriers are to hard to find and if you are lucky enough to find one, I sure wouldn't waste his time by standing him up. You should have called your mother to let her know you'd be late. If you know you can't make it out to the barn in time, it is your responsibility to make sure that the farrier knows. I know you asked your mom to reschedule, but since you didn't get the reschedule date, you should have asked about it again. You will be lucky if he will even reschedule you. When you schedule a professional (wether it be farrier, vet, trainer or whatever) out to your barn, then it is your responsibility to be there or make sure someone else is.
What Sandy said.
In the end it was your responsibility to make sure this happened. If you knew you were going to be running late why not call the BO or a friend to make sure someone was there to hold your horse until you got there?
Chalk it up to a lesson learned -- if you want to be sure something is done, do it yourself.
thing with this farrier being that i have no idea if he is even good and yes i am partly to blame but i had asked my mom repeatedly to give me his card and make sure she didn't make the appt. till atleast 12:20.. Her being her did the exact oposit of everything i asked and made it for 5 mins after i got out.. didn't give me a card..and ignored all of my calls when i was trying to get a hold of her to call him to let him know i might be a little late(thinking my appt. wasnt that early). So yes i take responsibility but he also had my mothers number and he also admitted to not asking the bo or calling my mother to see what was happening(the BO's son was my ride home).
It is not his place to try and find out where you are. As I said, you or someone else should have been there.
Why would your mother be mad at you for not calling, if you tried to call and she just ignored your calls. You may as well admit that it was you that messed up...not mom, BO and certainly not farrier. The best thing you can do is learn from your mistakes and not repeat them. Make sure that you or someone else is there for the next farrier.
sandy2u1-i had trie to call her but she didnt answer so she took it as my "not clling" and the BO was there we are friends with her i've known her since i was little nd we asked her to be out there and she was when he got there and for a bit fter but had to leave for an emergency at work. And i have already stated that i am taking responsibility a couple times. I'm not saying i'm not to blame i know i am
So you had the BO out to meet the farrier? Funny, but you didn't mention that in your original post. If your BO was out there to meet the farrier for you and didn't even bother to tell him that you'd be right along and didn't even bother getting your horse out so the farrier could get him started, then it's the BO you should be mad at. If she was out there when he got there and for a bit after, it seems strange that she wouldn't even get the horse out so the farrier could get his work done. The reason you ask someone else to go out is so that they can get your horse out and let the farrier get started. I know you said that she had a work emergency but that was after she met the farrier and was out there for a bit. So why didn't the BO get the horse out and hold him for the farrier????
Like I said, quit being defensive and chalk it up to a lesson learned.
Just love the way stories morph when the OP is not getting the response they wanted.
I agree with Sandy, time to take this as a life lesson and learn from it.
How long had you known that your mother made the appointment for noon?
You say you knew you couldn't make it at 12:00, so why didn't you call and reschedule immediately after you found out the time? I find it hard to believe that you didn't know the time more than a few hours before the farrier was scheduled to come out.
I also find it hard to believe that your mother refused to give you the farrier's information. If that's true, then y'all have a lot more problems than just missing a farrier appointment. Passive aggressive much?
Good farriers don't make same day appointments anyway, because they're usually booked solid for at least 2 to 3 weeks ahead of time. I have to book my next appointment right after I have my boys' feet done, or I may not get a slot as soon as I'd like.
A farrier is a professional, and needs to be treated as one. He probably had other horses booked between 12:30 and 1:00, and if he'd waited for you it would have inconvenienced his other customers.
He also didn't make the appointment with the BO, he made it with you. It's not his responsibility to try and run down his absentee customer. If the customer is running late it's their responsibility to call him, not the other way around.
Sorry, but I don't see the farrier as being at fault here. He did everything right, including being on time. You and your mother dropped the ball big time. You'll be lucky if he even accepts another appointment date from you.
