Is my SWB 'older' style or 'newer' style?
I was wondering if the sport horse community could help me with this one. I'm relatively new to the old vs new warmblood categorizing. I'd like to get a clear answer on what my SWB is, newer style or older style. I'm always better at looking at other people's horses than my own to be honest!
His sire was a definite old style SWB stallion, Juvel. I don't have a picture of the dam, but her sire was Gribaldi, a KWPN DWB. I'm not sure if he's considered new or old style. I have a guess that he's on the newer side, but that's really more of a guess.
Anyways, here are some pictures of mine:
I tried to provide different angles and such. He's a late 5yo and just finished growing height wise a few months ago, so he still needs to do a bit more filling out.
I know that he's technically 50% 'old', but he also has a newish look to him. Alas, I'm confusing myself.
i know nothing about new vs old SWBs lol but he's gorgeous! :) How tall his he? Wow...
I agree with Spyder.
He definitely looks more like an 'old' type WB. He's more built with more bone. I think I prefer this to some of the newer type warmbloods.
IMO - I also agree that he has an older style Swedish Warmblood build but I also want to state the fact that I really like him! He has heavier bone and isn't as refined as the "newer" type of WB that you are starting to see more of, especially with all the crossbreeding and such. He also has an overall thicker, but healthy, conformation. He looks like a very steadfast and sturdy horse. In other words, he looks like he can hold his own, especially out on the trails! He looks very balanced, relaxed and comfortable. I am willing to bet that he offers a smooth ride like a luxury Cadillac! I want to take him for a test ride! .lol. Kudos on this lovely guy!
I have to say it again, I really like him, he just looks so kind a gentle!
"older" type definitely shines through enough to set him aside from the "newer" types
:-) We own a L.A. Baltic Son daughter who is out of Rose of Sweden bred by Dr. Hoff-Carmona (the individual who between her and her husband brought the SWB;s to the U.S.) and your boy looks very very much like our mare who is 17 this year. My guess is Old style ~ which I personally happen to like for our breeding program! She is bred to our Sire of the Year award recipient, HG Esquire+, a Warmblood Approved, Multi-National winning Purebred Arabian ;)
