Thoughts on these yearlings
Can I get a critique on these two for all-around prospects, trail riding, possibly mounted shooting. Both are yearlings.
Dun filly. By reg AQHA/FQHA "Olenas Blonde Alibi" (99.2% foundation) out of reg PHBA "Five Star Bruja". Most likely to mature around 15.1
Colt is by a paint stallion, and out of a qh/clydesdale mare. Mature around 15.3. Obviously not registerable.
I like both of them. Her coloring is so nice! I'm partial to drafts so I really like him but if you plan on doing anything that is speed involved, you'd probably be better off with her. They both have a pretty upright shoulder which would make them less able to extend, he has more shoulder than her, obviously bigger boned. They are both really cute though. Such a hard age to tell......
What would you use them for? What you are going to use them for may change the views on each of them.
Having a Clyde x myself, I am very partial to them, their temperment is wonderful from my experience, and he would most likely be a great trail partner. I would agree with the comment above re: speed-My clyde X thinks he is really fast....but he is the only one who has that opinion! lol
I really don't like the looks of the filly. Her neck ties in way too high for my taste and I wonder how much hard work she would be capable of doing and stay sound. Her pasterns are really long and her fronts are way too sloped. Plus, there is virtually no bone in her legs and her front legs are tied in :?. I much prefer the colt.
Thanks for the comments. What I didn't like about the filly was how small boned she was. Both of her parents are nicely built, and I saw some pics of her half brother who was stunning! She just does really thrill me, so prob will pass on her anyways.
I love the colt's large bone and large feet. I just wish he was a bit shorter, I do love draft crosses though!
There was another colt I was looking at, but waiting on some better pics of him.
