Sore mouth =(
Sigh, just as I though I was having a good, healthy run with Candy I have found a sore inside her mouth.
I am perplexed as to how it has come about..
It is a scabby-like sore about the size of a 10 c piece, on her bottom gum just below bottom teeth. It is not in a place where the bit touches, and I have no idea how a scab could have formed here.
Perhaps a gum infection? Doesn't seem to be worrying her, still eats all day however the other day I gave her a hard feed and she ate some, and then just stopped eating for a while. She has done this before, but she never gets hard feed so when she does its a big deal for her - So I thought it was a bit unusual for her to be disinterested in her food. I gave her hay today which she munched down.
Time to call the dentist or vet? =(
Call your vet to ask if they feel a visit is required. Every time I've seen this type of thing the treatment has been to rinse the mouth 2-3X daily with a salt soloution (we made it with the cobalt salt). If it was very severe we treated with silver nitrate sticks (from your vet) these essentially seal the wound up. Sometimes to be safe the vet may suggest some type of antibiotic, such as sulpha.
