To wear or not to wear?
 

I am going to my first show in 10 days (I can hardly sit still :D) and I was wondering if chaps are nessicary for western pleasure and western horsemanship. The show I am going to is very small, approximately 40 riders, distributed between halter, western, english, and fun classes. I don't know anybody going, so I can't ask around to see if I'll be the only one in jeans. I don't have the money for a pair right now, but my birthday is coming up in a month and then I'll have enough for a pair.....but in anyboy's opinion......will I look like an idiot without them?

And yes I realize that chaps are part of the western pleasure/horsemanship outfit.

I don't think you will look like an idiot without a pair of them. I wouldn't go that far!

Is this a requirement?
If not then I am sure there will be other people who won't be wearing them.
Chaps,depending,can be very expensive. Not everyone has the money for them. I know I don't have the money for that right now but I don't show so there isn't any point for me to get them really.
I would just wear a nice pair of jeans and a shirt. Dress nice,not overdone though.

I think you'll be just fine without them. My chaps cost quite a lot and considering how small the show is, I would not risk wearing mine at such a small show.
Wear black jeans if possible, it looks a lot better than wearing blue demin ones. Even cream or white jeans if possible.

I just looked through the fairbook and there are no specified rules in those categories. Thank your for responding....It really does make me feel better. :)
I do have a nicer show shirt and black hat, belt and boots. And that alone was a chunk of change

normally, unless otherwise stated, they are a requirement for equitation classes. That being said, if it's a local show, you are probably ok without them.

I have to agree that since it is a smaller schooling show you should be fine with out them.

It is always best to have as complete a show out as is possible. If you had chaps I would say for sure wear them even at this show. Since you do not have any, and you have no one to borrow a set from, it should be not big deal for this level show to go with out.

if it isnt a requirement then i would guess that you dont have to. if you wear jeans, i would suggest a dark wash, for it looks nicer.
