Too Tired to Fight
Lately I've been fighting a lot with my horse - I want to trot, he wants to canter; I want to jump, he wants to plow through jumps. Basically we've both become so tense that I get hard on his mouth, and it becomes a vicious cycle. When this generally happens, it takes a while for us to break the cycle.
To make a long story short, my good friend from high school died this week of cancer at age 19. I pretty much lost all my fight. I've been turning to riding for a moment to myself, and I have to say that since I've given up all of my fight, everything has suddenly clicked.
Tonight I went to lessons, and my horse went like a CHAMPION. If we rode a dressage as good as we rode tonight we'd be scoring 99s! He flexed and went in a frame easily, didn't spook at things the other horse spooked at, and went really well. My coach suggested we jump. I was a little worried but she set up jumps and he went over them SO WELL! I am so so proud.
Isn't it such a great feeling when suddenly everything comes together and just works perfectly?
I love those moments when it really all comes together.
Nico also loves a good fight...he loves to annoy. When I'm having a bad day and I ride just to get away, I think he just takes over. He always brightens my day. Sounds like your boy does the same!
Sorry to hear about your friend. 19 is so young.
I love those moments...
I know! It was just the greatest thing. I just let out a big sigh.. like it felt like it was right on. I loved it.
And yes, 19 is so young <3 but it was her decision to cut off the life support (her lungs had deteriorated and she was breathing through a machine). From now on, I'm riding for her. She'd want me to do my very best.
Im sorry to hear about yoru friend :(
i do love those moments!
I am so sorry about your friend :( What a horrible thing to have to go through, for all those involved. Absolutely heartbreaking :(
I absolutely love those rides! You can work so hard daily and get nowhere, but them BAM that one ride goes so beautifully, it makes you grin from ear to ear!
ahh them rides are amazing you suddenly feel like everything you thought is coming tgether finally!!
Very sorry about your friend
Very very sorry for your friend :( It is so sad that that happened at such a young age..
Those rides are the best. Everything just works so well and you are on top of the world!
I am SO sorry about your friend. My dad's best friend died last year only 8 weeks after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer (it was my mom who realiszed something was wrong first). He left behind an estranged wife and 6 children. He, my dad, and their other best friend were refered to as the 3 Irishmen in our church, as they LOVED their irish heritage and anything related to Ireland (my dad and this friend are both red-heads only a few generations removed from Ireland). It was heart wrenching to watch a man I loved like an uncle pass so painfully, but it is SUCH a relief to know that his suffering is over. I hope you and her family will find comfort and peace as well.
As for the "click"...I'm waiting for that to happen with my boy. LOL But, I've only had him 3 months, and he's only 4 months off the track...so we've only ridden together twice. We have a loooooooooooong way to go, but your story makes me want to go out and ride him NOW! LOL
