True white horse...care?
Went out to see another horse today, I think she is pretty much what I want. However, she is a "loud" tovero, all of her white has pink skin under it. What kind of care is this going to require? Am I going to need to get her a UV resistant blanket? Or does their coat give their skin the protection that it needs? I plan to get her a nice fly mask to cover the pink on her nose and around her eyes where there is almost no hair.
My mare is a mostly white, black and white tobiano. She's never sunburned on her back or body where her skin is pink. I put sunblock [the child SPF 70-75 one] on her nose EVERY DAY in the summer [when her face fuzz is gone, it's not a problem in the winter, she has enough hair on her nose]. You can get sunburned even if it's cloudy. She wears a long-nosed, eared fly mask, but I still recommend using sunblock because the sun can still get to her nose.
The only other think I noticed is her teats are pink, and are, for some reason, much more attractive to the biting bugs. I apply a full squirt of fly spray to her teats daily, and it helps.
