OVERWIEGHT??

Hey,

I posted some pictures in Critique, of my Quarab Gelding. I have had some comments that he is overweight... I personally think he is at a good Show weight, for hacking, Led in and Pony Club. I measured his weight, with a weight tape, and he is:

430kg (or 1001 pounds)... remembering he is a 15.1 1/2hh (without shoes) Quarab...

(P.S If you cant find the pictures, its under "Overall appearance critique please" if not i can upload them up here too :) )

If someone can reckonmend a ideal weight for his height and breed, that would be much appreicated :D

Thanks guys

I, personally, do not think he is overweight. He looks perfect to me! I think that anyone that says he is overweight has a totally different perspective of weight.

He looks nice and full to me. :D

I see what people are talking about I think....I think his rear looks good, and his shoulder forward looks good. His barrel area does look well padded...maybe it is something that could just be toned up a bit? I don't think that I would actively work to put him on a diet.

I think it is better for him to have a little too much padding there than too little. He does not have that look of an obese horse (the neck, jiggle butt and chest, etc.)

Maybe increase his cardio workouts some (more trotting trail rides) and see if it tones up?? Again, poundage wise, he sounds good...keep the weight, but tone it up. :)

hey thanks for that!! :D He defintally needs to tone up, he hasnt been in much work, because of this darn EI in Australia atm. But its all good, because we are in white zone atm, so we can move our horses... YAY!!

Like its not like he is getting alot of food... he only gets 2 mixed feeds a day, which is just a 2L ice cream container of Sweetbulk, and a KG of a lucearn mixture, which contains oils, minerals, sunflower seeds, pony pellets etc.

And access to pasture all day... and he gets worked approx 3 times a week for 30min.
So you guys all happy, he just needs to be toned up more.. not to lose weight??
