I just started training in Western Pleasure about a year ago, and I've learned it using spur commands instead of rein commands. I'm thinking of buying a horse who's disciplined in Western Pleasure and I'm wondering how common it is to have spur command training. Because otherwise I'd have to buy a horse and have my trainer train it and that's, well, I'm not going to lie, that's more money than I have. :/ I'm curious how common it is to have spur training.

mmm, very common among the higher level show horses.
my horse has a spur stop, spur back, spur slow, and spur headset, but thats just because in the show ring we dont want the judges seeing us use our hands or even give our horses clues.

That's reassuring to know that it's common. It's also nice to know that I chose a higher-level training, so that I can get the best I can. Before Western Pleasure, I did barrel racing and even before that, my beginning training was hunter, so I'm not really used to the slower pace. It's nice, though.

ya, it definitly is. and i like the spur training idea, though its weird when you get on another horse, and forget that they dont have a spur stop too. haha

And then, when you come from barrel training where everything is "GOGOGOGOGO!", it's weird to remember that you don't need to hang on the reins.

Well, I'm still not all that good in it and my posture needs work, but as soon as I improve and my trainer thinks I'm ready, heck yes I'm going to show!
