Any truth behind this?
I got my new Wintec 500 the other day, so I brought it to the barn with me to ride in... only to find out that my trainer thought I should send it back. She seems to think synthetic saddles are inferior, and that the saddle will break down faster due to the interchangable gullets. Since I'm planning to minimally switch the gullets, take good care of the saddle, etc., is there any truth behind this statement? I'm not sure whether to take her advice or ignore it, but I want a second opinion before I do anything, although I'm planning to keep the saddle because I like it... unless it would be a very bad idea to do so. Help?!?

I have had my Big Horn cordura which some call synthetic all of my life and my mother rode in it before I did., It has served us for well over 20 years, and has swam many rivers, and started many colts and I wouldn't take a thousand dollars for it!

I don't know anything about the English saddles, but I used to have a synthetic western saddle and I absolutely loved it. I grew out of it, though. It's still being used today and it's about 6 or 7 years old.

I hear great things about Synthetic saddles. Supposedly they don't hold up as well as leather, but I guess it just depends sometimes. They are light, easy to clean, and don't attract mildew ;)

There are a few synthetic saddles at the barn where I take lessons and they hold up just as well as the leather ones. Also they sell leather saddles with interchangeable gullets as well so if they do break down faster it is not just because they are synthetic.

Your Wintec 500 is a decent saddle. Your trainer is just a leather snob.
I had a 25 y/o Wintec that I sold to a lesson barn. They've had the saddle 3 years now, and it's still going strong.
I have a 2000 that's at least 5 y/o and still looks brand new. Synthetics will last just as long as a leather saddle. Plus, they're easier to clean!

Thanks, I thought so... somehow I didn't think Wintecs were an all-out messup, considering how successful they are. I quite like mine, actually... besides, washing a saddle with a hose sounds like FUN! :-)
I'm glad to have some backup!

I have a wintec 500 that is ten years old, had a LOT of hard work, and is still going great. It has a bit of cosmetic wear and tear, but nothing that effects the performance.

Plus with a synthetic, aren't you doing your part for the environment???

i had a wintec close contact with interchangeable gullet which was synthetic :D i have never heard a bad word about any interchangeable gullet saddle apart from the WOW saddles :)
