I can't decide if i want to get tack or not!
I'm currently leasing a 5yr old morgan mare. I pretty much finished her off. When i asked the owner if she could notify me if and or when she came up for sale. She said that she would let me know but that she wasn't planning on selling her. I would like to buy tack for her so that if she did come up for sale in the future then i would like to be prepared with the tack and everything i need for her. But on the other hand im worried that if I put out the money for the stuff then i might now have enough money to buy her if she becomes for sale. Also if i buy everything fitted to her then if i stopped leasing her i would have to get rid of it if it doesn't fit the horse that i will use next. Would you please help me make a decision.
If you know you are going to leasing her for a long period of time, meaning many years of showing, I would say yes because even if the saddle has been used minimally, you can sell them and associated tack to a used-saddle shop or off an online store.
If you are unsure of your future, I wouldn't spend the money. It may be wasted and custom fitted gear can be very hard to sell.
I don't know if it would it be considered lightly used. I ride almost every day for about an hour to 2 hours each everyday except sunday. Would it be good to just get the stuff that would be easily given from horse to horse? I wouldn't mind doing that but i know if it were fitted it would be much more comfortable for her. I also dislike using the tack provided by the owner. Many girls go to the barn i do and not all of them take that good care of it so some of it is dammaged. Also its always a toss up to whether or not on show day if someone will be using the stuff that i use for her. I would like to own my own stuff eventually but i don't know if this is the right time to start getting what i will need. Is there some other route i could go?
If you buy a saddle for her either buy a general fit saddle for every day use and then a second saddle for showing only, or use one of the barn saddles and your own saddle for showing. Buying two saddles like that will greatly save you money as custom fit saddles rank up in the thousands and hard to sell once you are finished with them.
The show saddle could be sold as lightly used but for your everyday saddle you could probably get about half price for it given you took good care of it.
but what about bridles and stuff?
I have my own curry, hard brush, english saddle pad, and hoof pick. Is there anything else that i could get that wouldn't cost that much and still be passable onto other horses?
A bridle, reins, a bit if well kept uh thats about it.
