How do I keep my horse from going faster then I like, or bolting. He is still green, and I have history of only riding trained horses. Should I push him to go in an area he is scared?
Need a bit more information about what you're doing with him, but in general I would never push a horse all the way to where he is clearly tense and afraid. Instead I would take baby steps and take him out of his comfort zone a little at a time and reward his efforts to manage his fear and relax.
Agreed, we need more information. First off, you should have a solid stop before you take him outside the roundpen. If you can't stop him at the walk and jog, you will never stop him at the trot and lope. One thing about green horses is that they have no 'cruise control' like most trained horses have. You ask them to jog and they hit a long trot, you ask for the lope and they are on the verge of a gallop. It is something that just has to be managed and ridden through until they have enough time under saddle to really figure out what you want. Do you have anyone that can help you with him or give you some hands-on pointers?
He just came back from trainers so he suppose to have good stopping especially since I was involved in training guess he just got spooked
