Western Girth a Cinch?

I recently acquired a Western saddle and would like to know how to cinch it. My friends and I ride English but I would like to start Western too. Does anyone know of a website that shows how to cinch it up!?

There are a few ways to do it, but here's a tutorial showing one of them.

That is a good tutorial SO. Though I will mention that many western saddles have a 'keeper' that is attached just below the swell on the near side that you pull the excess latigo through instead of tying it around the d-ring.

Yes, thats a good thing to do.

Some people also just make another loop through the D ring and leave the small amount of latigo down.

Both ways work, but the way smrobs showed is ideal.

I use the method shown in the tuturial. I like it much better. =) I think its just personal preference.

Using a keeper is also more practical if you have to constantly adjust your cinch like I do when I am roping or working cattle.

Thank you Standing Ovation! That tutorial is great! Also, thank you paint mom and smrobs for the tips and advice. :)

My saddle doesn't have a keeper... I have no choice LOL. =)

Thought I'd jump in and mention that we show both methods of tying a cinch on our "How To Tie a Western Cinch" page where smrobs found the photo he posted.
