Update with Prego or Not Mini Mare*
I had the Vet out today and she took a blood sample, I find out next week. No major change in udder, but we used a stethoscope and my mom is an RN and she heard a steady, fast 'bump-bump-bump' like a heartbeat and swears it was one. I heard it as well then a week later we had a friend of mine come out and she is a cardiologist Technician and she heard it as well, coarse it takes a while to find and it does move around but we find it every time HOWEVER! The vet says we wouldn't be able to hear a heartbeat, is she right? We won't know anything for a week and when we do and if she is prego, we wont know how far till we have an ultrasound. What do you guys think? Could you be able to hear a heartbeat? and does she still look prego or not? Also she was wormed 2wks ago with Safegaurd.

Are they sending off for ES test?

Also, I have limited her hay: no belly change, limited her grass: no belly change.

oops, jumped post, they are sending for the Estrogen Sulfate test? Does that sound right? That's what was written on the receipt

Yeah thats it, only trouble with those is , there is a window to get accurate result sometimes you can tell easily. Is there anther thread about, when you got her, did she come maybe in foal to you? of course a few months you will know for sure..:)

There are my other threads but I have owned her 6 years now and she has never had a belly like this. I owned a stallion for 3 yrs and she never got bred by him before but we sold him in the first week of March and we had an early 'fake' spring of where for 2wks it got warm, 50s-60s and sunny and maybe she got bred then. She is anywhere from now 5-10 months prego. 10 being she got bred in August and 5 being around February. I highly doubt the 10month part, and 4-5months you wouldn't be able to tell too much I don't think but then again she was more of the 'arabian' type of mini so I don't know. I just hope the results hurry up!

Why didn't the vet either ultrasound her or do a rectal preg check? If she is at least 5 months along, a good vet should be able to feel the foal.. An Ultrasound will show a foal and heartbeat, etc. Much quicker than a blood test.

With us not knowing how far along she is, the vet said with an ultrasound the foal could hide? and she didn't want to do a palpation on a mini being they are so small. It was also cheaper to go with a blood test and will let me know a definate yes or no and if she is confirmed I will then have an ultrasound to help better judge her due date

You know, I swear I could hear a heartbeat one time with my pregnant mare. I just had my ear to her gut, when the foal was pushing on that side (I could see the bulge moving so I knew he was near that spot in her belly). And I wasn't using a stethoscope even. It sounded like a heart beat only faster than my own (and I assume the mare's wouldn't be that fast either). So I too would like to know, are you supposed to be able to hear the foal's heartbeat? It sure sounded like it to me, but I have only heard it once, and since I don't have a stethoscope, the odds aren't in my favor of hearing it again! :?
You might also want to try watching her belly (if you have the time) because my mare's baby moved around a lot. He actually moves less now that she is closer to being due (maybe because there's less room in there?) but I'm thinking around the 9th month or so, he started kicking around a bunch! :-)

That's correct, you can't hear the foal's heartbeat.
Doesnt' look preg to me, but that doens't mean she's not of course, especially if not too far along. Keep us updated!
