Critique My Drawing?

I am fourteen and I have not been drawing horses for long, but I am having a little trouble on how to draw them realistically. The drawing below is one I did recently and I am kind of unhappy with both horses. They are so difficult to draw! I would really love tips though!! Thank you! :)

(PS please ignore the "stalls". I did them quickly, I mostly wanted to finish the horses)

ooo i see it now!
very nice, but the horses eyes should look like this: http://www.pencilplace.com/newscans/...drawing_bw.jpg
see how the horse has a horizontel pupil? and how at the very tip of the eye is a different color. :)

I really like how you did the horse looking out of the stalls face, thats really pretty :)

Thank you :)
I can see how eyes play a big part in how the horse looks, thanks so much for the tip!

Spend more time, is my only suggestion. You have an excellent start! Your shading is good- you can use more and more layers of shading to get great effects. Just keep adding details. I like to work from photos because then you can see exactly where you need a line or a shadow or whatever. Nice job~ keep drawing!!!

mistygirl - I had a look at your drawings and they are really good! They have a lot more depth and definition then mine do. :) And they also helped with trying to spot definition of a horse. Thanks for sharing!

payette - Thank you! :) I plan to spend more time drawing them, because even though they are difficult, I have fun trying and getting critique too! Also, I haven't even thought of putting shadows in a drawing! Boy am I silly! I might have to try that and see what I get ... :) Thanks so much for the tips!

you did the dapples very nice. Excellent. Do you look at a picture or just draw from the minds eye?
