How do you get the size of a winter turn out blanket? I know where to measure. i got about 65inches. Would the 65 be the size? also anyone know where I can get a good cheap blanket, new or used?
dover saddlery has blankets that last thru A LOT... they aren't hte cheapest but it's worth it... my friends horse used to rip all his blankets within two months (silly babies!) but she got a dover and it last a year and a half!
if you don't get the magazine you can go to doversaddlery.com
I would agree with Dover. I have had great luck with their own brand blankets "Riders international" which come in various weights and all their turnout blankets hold up well and are waterproof and don't slip or rub.
Right now they have a sale on so their prices are very reasonable for what you would be getting.
Sizing a turnout blanket
You need to be careful when measuring your horse for a turnout blanket as they have a tendency to run a little fuller. A blousier effect instead of a traditional fitted look.
Here in the US, we have always measured from the middle of the horse's chest, around the side to the tail to get our "inches" measurement. Round down to the next size smaller for a turnout.
If you are measuring for a WeatherBeeta with the "Freestyle" system that has a much larger tail flap, just measure to the point of the butt. This will get you closer to the true size you should purchase. You want the tail flap top of the seam to be at or as close to the top of the horse's tail.
An inexpensive, but good quality turnout blanket line that is made by WeatherBeeta is there Saxon line of turnout sheets and blankets. You can choose from a 600 or 1200 denier ripstop fabric (the 1200 is tougher than the 600) and also the fill weight. None for a sheet, 180 grams of fill for the medium weight or 250 grams of fill for their heavy weight version.
Here is a link to our Saxon's that we have on sale:http://www.tackroominc.com/blankets-...-c-42_350.html
