Your advice to new horse owners
If you could go back and give yourself any advice before you owned your own horse, what would it be?
And I realize a lot of you have had horses all of your life.. Don't rub it in. ;)
Always check your horses water and that you shut the gates.
Tie up to twine if you're not sure about horse or what you're tying up to.
Keep on top of ground manners - it might seem "cute" at first that he wants to rub up to you, or that he runs to you when he's scared but these problems quickly escalate.
Spend time making sure your horse stands still. So many horses don't stand still when mounted, rugged, saddled etc. You let them get away with it once they do it again and again.
Ground manners/standing is something beginners seem to ignore. They're taught basic riding and troubleshooting in lessons but their not taught about safety on the ground.
Also horses need dentists. When I got my first horse I didn't know that until about 6 months later. Also male horses need "special cleaning". People don't mention these things.
