painting leather
Has anyone ever painted leather? I have a bridle/breastcollar with a color painted on part of the design, and I would like to paint over it. Any thoughts or ideas? What type of paint to use?

Leather is normally dyed - if it looks like paint then it is probably an acrylic based dye which sort of looks like paint.

If you want to remove this and get back to one single colour you will need to buy a deglazer which should remmove the top surface and all surface colours - you will then need to apply a dye prep followed by the dye of your colour choice and finally an acrylic finish to , it is normally only possible to either get back to the original colour or darken the leather, so it's possible to go form brown to black but not the reverse , you can apply a white dye to any colour and then re-dye in any colour you want but this is not an easy process to get a finished item that looks good.

You can get all these products and info on how to use them from Fiebings

Oh man, sounds complicated. Maybe I will just stick with the blue color on the leather. UGH
