Tell me your views on giving your horses treats.

I don't give treats unless I'm making me horse do a trick. Other wise I want my horse satisfied with my gratitude and care. And I want him to focus on me and not the treat.
I give treats, though not while we are working.
I don't. It encourages my horse to bite and be demanding. But that's just my horse.

i sometimes give my mare a half of a carrot to catch her because she has trouble getting caught. to get her to come to me the next few times to come to me instead of running away from of me. i dont know if thats just her, and thats what i think i should do. so yeah...

i give treats after we ride if she has been good as a reward. I also sometimes give them to her if she has been good for clipping, bathing, etc. But never before we work otherwise she will not be good

I like my horse to respond to my physical or verbal phrase. Not treats.

My horse's mouth is sooo big, I can give her three to four treats at one time ( depending on the treat)!! It's kind of funny.
I personally LOVE giving my horse treats :D :D :D and she loves them!!
But that's just my horse...
Sorry..I had to add..it usually isn't good to just throw treats at your horse like hay....I usually only give treats as a reward for something...or if she's being good...

I do. I give my horses treats after feeding twice a day (couple horse cookies), and after I work them out (couple small carrot pieces). After my qh done with her food she stands next to me waiting for paint to finish, and they get couple horse cookies each. As long as I'm done with cookie portion I pat their necks and they go for own business.

I give treats. I give one in the morning when I go out to check on them, feed critters and general messing about. They are in the dry lot for the winter and I want them to learn to come up to the gate first thing in the morning once they are back in big pasture for summer. I also give a treat with the bit when I tack up and a treat or a rub when the do something correctly. There are some horses that you just can't treat. I had one that would rip your clothes off trying to get a cookie so I stopped giving them to her. If they stay respectful I treat if not, no treats.
