Waybuenos Art Journal
I guess I'll post art here every so often. I dont draw as much as I used to but im starting to draw again, my main subjects being reining horses, their always so pretty and I own one so theres the attraction lol.

Heres a sketch I did of 'Nic Chex' a stallion featured in a magazine I get. I saw him and just felt like drawing him. He's a stud out of 'Reminic' and 'Bueno Chex Kaweah'

Lovely work :) Are you going to start adding some tonal detail to your work? Your proportions and outlines are fabulous, it would be a shame not to start playing with blocking in some tone work :)

Im afraid to, to be perfectly honest because I don't really know how and I get so excited when I draw something nice I don't wanna take the chance of messing it up

Maybe instead of putting the effort into drawing a full horse like this one, try just drawing a cheek to start with, and start to shade that in. Have a look on equessketch's (sorry I forgot how she spells it!) journal as she has a lovely technique for blending her pencil work to get the detail into it. I won't try to confuse you with my technique, as I draw in every single hair and will add around 20-30 layers of graphite before I feel I have enough depth to the image :S

Hmmm Ill try that tonight and see how it goes :]
Your art is amazing by the way

Good luck, be sure to put up the results ;)

You can also try drawing a 'furry ball'... draw a sphere, and try to make it look 3D by drawing in fur strokes. It will certainly teach you about tonal values and how to make your drawing come off the page if you can make a circle look 3D and furry!

And thank you *blushes*

It's very satisfying branching out in your art, you get a great sense of achievement from it. I love sticking in my comfort zone, but doing commission work gets me well and truly out of my comfort zone, as much as I hate being terrified that I'm not going to be successful with a piece, the finished result builds my confidence and makes me want to try another one.
Just think of it as 'more tools in your toolbox' :)
