I got home this evening and went to let a group of the horses into the big pasture and noticed 2 of the horse's faces are swollen. Right along the bridge of the nose. The mare's face is the worst, her face looks ridiculous. Its a hard swelling, she also has slight swelling on the side of her jaw. The geldings nose is only slightly swollen along the bridge of his nose, no swelling by his jaw. Both do have slightly enlarged submandibular lymph nodes. They are acting completely normal and have normal temps. The mare was uncomfortable when I pressed on the swelling on the nose. The weanling that shares the pasture seems completely fine. I couldn't catch the brat to get a temp on him. And the horses that share the fenceline, but not the same pasture are fine.
Any ideas on what might be causing this? I would have thought maybe a bug bite, but its wierd that they both have it. Could it maybe be a weed in the pasture they both ate? .
