Conformation Challenge
I figured it would be fun to continue the educational vein that we have recently started as far as the conformation of horses.

The challenge is:

Find a good conformation photo/photos of a horse that you think closely or perfectly fits the conformational ideal. Side, front, and rear would be ideal, but I think if there is at least a full body side shot, it will work. Be sure to list the breed and any other relevant stats that you can find.

You can use ad photos, images found on the net, or photos of horses you know.

Everyone else's job will be to try to find at least 1 conformational fault on that horse. If you choose to list a fault on a horse, please be prepared to explain it in detail as others may not share the opinion if it is not clearly illustrated.

It might help for people to number the contestant horses as they are entered so that people critiquing them can refer to them by number. I also think it might be best to leave off the name of the horse for fairness to all contestant photos (in case someone uses a photo of a horse that is popular by name). :) :)

I am assuming this will be rather difficult because it seems that there is something a little off of ideal with most every horse, but we will see...

Also, if anyone has any links to good websites for description of ideal conformation, terms, and illustrations of what to look for, that might help people critique - that would be awesome.

Remember, this is supposed to be fun and educational, so everyone play nice. :) Happy hunting.

So we can just pick a photo and breed and critique it?

Ok this is Peptoboonsmal, he is one of the top sires of cutting horses. I love him :D

He's gorgeous. It's rather hard to tell from those pictures since they aren't side on. But I would say he is just a hair cow-hocked. But that is just how it seems by these pictures.

Her back dips down a wee bit too much. Also her throat latch is rather large.

ok yeah i didn't notice her throat latch until you said that, and her back does dip a bit. She's still a looker though, for a tb (no offence I usually don't like tbs! but I have ridden some good ones)

Good picks quixotesoxs! I love them both.

Good eye Harlee. Do we agree that #1 is cowhocked? one picture looks more so than the other.

Lets keep looking for perfect :)

I've posted this before. Anyone looking at a quarter horse needs to get this image burned into their mind permanently.

You can not fault this animal. It's not even real. Just a painting. But it's the official breed standard.

If your horse looks like this, you have nothing to worry about.

I think this one is darn close...
