Training the mane?

So Tiger's mane falls to the other side close to his withers.. I've tried to train it to fall to the same side as the rest of the mane by banding it. Is this the best way? Because I banded it to the side I want it to fall and it stayed that way until the bands rotted and fell out. About a month and a half maybe? I keep forgetting to band it back.. but it didn't seem to do anything. How long does it take to train a mane? Should I do something different?

If he is rugged id use a skinny hood, that will keep the mane flat against whatever side of the neck you want.

I have horses with everywhere manes. I tried for years-yes YEARS......to train my draft crosses mane-I even tied washers to it for weight, heavy duty gels..no matter what I have done, it goes back to looking like he is someones orphan child. :) Have let it grow out-same thing. New guy-same thing.......I'm destined to having scruffy boys I am afraid. When I show I either paste it down (temporarily) with gel, plait it-or-sometimes just say-oh well.

I agree with the skinny hood. I've had to use it in the past and it worked for me, so maybe it'll work for you! Good luck!

I "re trained" two horses manes and I did it by braiding them. What worked for me was to braid one baid to the next, split the hair in two and braid that hair to the next one, so that created one big net. It took me ten minutes and her hair from the mane resulted in only one piece.
I was trying to find a picture of it, but couldn`t find it. I kept it like that for about two weeks and wetted the hair every two days or so.
If I find a picture of it I will posted because I don`t know if I am clear, and it sounds complicated but it was very simple.

Good luck!

I washed mine and french braided it while wet. The braid came out naturally in a few hours and the mane stayed on one side

I braid the entire mane and in the places where it falls wrong I would use vetwrap to bind it to the "right" sided mane.
