afraid to canter
i've canter lots before but i haven't cantered since i fell a few months ago and the horse i'm riding now i've seen her canter she bounces the rider out of the saddle O_O im not sure if i can handle it!!! i'm not that good of a rider sadly advice?

Honestly, the only thing to do is take a deep breath & do it. If your horse makes you a bit nervous, maybe ask to use another horse at the canter, just to build your confidence (or have someone work you on the lunge line so that you can concentrate more on your seat without having to worry about controlling the horse).
Good luck. I've been there before ;)

is the horse well trained? you can always take that deep breath and go, and if she is too bouncy just slow her back to a trot, take it slow and do it in small intervals if you have too! no need to do it all at one time. or you can do like lilruffian said and take it to the lunge line to concetrate more on staying in saddle and being balanced that controlling the horse.

Is it the speed that is frightening you? If so, I had a similar issue a while back. My coach at the time videotaped me cantering and when I watched it it was disgustingly slow!! Certainly changed my perspective on what is a fast speed and what isn't.

speed i can deal with lol i normaly always like to go fast but i wasn't exactly afraid until i saw how bouncy it was i mean like she was bounching out of the saddle like a bad post i thought she was gonna fall!!!!!

I can relate. My one mare is really bouncy & I'm not that good of a rider either. However, its easier for me to sit her canter than her trot.
Like everyone says, you just got to do it.

true true n.n thx you guys you've helped lots... i can't sit her trot LOL its like so much better to post with its fun to post on her! i guess i could canter on her justneed to shorten reins and sit baaaaack xD the girl riding her was sorta a very beginer which is odd she was cantering since it took me months to earn that honor xD it used to be an honor anyways

everyone goes at different paces! i was cantering and loping on my first day riding! some people take time and some people thigns just come naturally for and everyone is different, if your pace is slower, don't get discouraged and do something you think is dangerous just to keep up. take your time and go at your own pace = )

Don't do something you're not ready for. If you are afraid to, I would say go no faster than a trot until you are bored out of your mind! You'll realize that it's better to just go for it! Trust me, I've been there, I used to lease a very speedy horse and I was terrified to canter, we would turn him out and let him gallop around before EVERY ride, and then my mom would have to canter him for 10 minutes, and he'd still be full of it. That's what I get for loving arabs, lol. Just go for it! It'll be worth it in the end and who knows? maybe you'll find the canter to be rather comfy.
