Saddlebred Sport Horses?
I've ridden with a trainer for a long time who is very involved with Saddlebreds and National Show Horses. I've ridden lots of Saddlebreds, they were always Saddleseat horses ridden by myself in hunter tack. I am not a saddleseat rider by any stretch of the imagination! I applaud those who do it, as I've shown it on the lower levels and it is exceptionally challenging. However, saddleseat riding is just not my cup of tea. It doesn't hold my interest, and I am just not good at it.
I am a hunter/jumper rider, that's where my current focus is. But I am really looking to stretch out into Dressage and Jumpers, and I know that I have an interest there.
So I was wondering, how many people have seen Saddlebreds used successfully in these disciplines? I love them personally, and from what I have seen of their movement I would think they are perfectly capable of advancing in dressage. I'm not saying every Saddlebred would, but I do think a lot of them could do it. And I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on Saddlebreds as sport horses.
My sister has a half saddlebred that she used to event to training level. He also schooled 4ft6 jumper courses. He is also a greay dressage horse !
He's very cute and was a really good jumper. Sadly he's had some hoof issues and doesn't really jump anymore
Zippy is half saddlebred and half appendix. I wish I could put up a pic because he is very handsome !

There seem to be a fair number of Saddlebreds crossing over into or even being specifically bred for the sport disciplines. Here area couple of links with that purpose in mind---

Most of the saddlebreds I know are sport horses. In fact, that is usually what I see their careers being these days! So they are definately good sport horses!
