First Painting Ever
I've never really painted before (a few watercolors in high school-that's it) but always wanted to give it a go. So almost 2 years ago next month I was given a saw blade by a friend that he wanted me to paint. Thinking it wouldn't be that difficult, I bought some oil paints and started what I thought would be an easy project. Wrong! Turns out oils and I don't get along...at all. So the saw has sat for almost two years now and I'd only touched it once or twice.
Well a few weeks ago I started following the awesome works of Lilruffian (check out her threads if you haven't yet!) and thought I should maybe give it another try. But this time with acrylics. So I stripped the paint off and started again. And tada! I'm done.
So don't judge too harshly-first painting practically. I'm just glad it's finally done.
And due to the ridiculously large size of this thing and a not-so-great camera, the pics aren't that great. Sorry!
Wow thats amazing I cant paint to save my life :]
Very cool! I love the action/movement between the horses :D You just reminded me that I have a sawblade I've been meaning to paint for the last year. . .
Lol i like it! Especially the sky (i hate painting clouds lol) and the detail in the trees. I know it's not easy to paint on tricky surfaces because the paint always wants to pullup when you go to apply another coat.
I like how you placed the horses as well & shadowing ;)
Great job girl! Hope this means we'll see more!
Bueno~lol I didn't think I could either. To be frank, I hated painting. The idea of it didn't appeal to me at all. Give it a try :D
Payette~Hopefully you don't take two years to finish it like I did!
Lilruffian~Just so you know, you were my inspiration  If it weren't for your thread on your paintings I wouldn't have considered acrylic and this thing would still be in my basement collecting dust. And yeah the surface was...interesting. There was only one spot about the size of a quarter that wanted to pull up. I convinced it otherwise
And I hope to maybe paint again...we'll see!
Lol just like if I posted some drawings from even a year ago. Not to mention a practice mini-painting i did when i bought the paint two years ago. It was horrible!
The trees are brilliant! This is fantastic for a first painting, and particularly on such a different surface, very brave of you that's for sure!!
Thanks Kayty. I think I went into it not realizing what i may have been getting myself into. It wasn't until I was about halfway done with the grass when the though occurred to me 'wait, this isn't the best thing to paint on-it's not like a canvas at all'
o well!
Lol you should have seen me when i did my first stretch-board canvas (i normally work on a flat canvas with a hard (glued) backing). I nearly set the thing on fire i was so frustrated! I managed to cool myself though & after stuffing it in my closet for a few days went back & finished it.
Kindof silly, because i can work with them fine now lol.
