Going to Korea on September 1st!
My boyfriend and I are going to Korea on September 1st! That is, South Korea, for those that aren't aware of North Korea's hostility, especially towards Americans. I'm nervous, but very excited. I'll get to take a tour of the border [the 38th parallel?] that will be terrifying. My boyfriend also says there are a lot of museums and, you know, old stuff [his words o_O] to see. His giving me his camera, so expect a lot of pictures.
Mostly, I'm worried about not being able to talk to anyone or communicate anything. Boyfriend speaks Korean pretty well, so we aren't totally deaf, but even if some of his friends there speak English, it'll be very hard to understand them because the accent will be so thick. And the culture is so different, I'm afraid I may accidently insult or offend someone. Like bringing a bowl of, say, soup, up to your lips. Or sticking my chopsticks in my food. Which reminds me...
Food. I'm going to starve. I don't eat meat, and it's going to be difficult finding enough food. Rice. Lots of plain, boring, white rice. But I guess there's a Taco Bell! So maybe I'll come back very fat, lol. On the other hand, I don't know if I'll actually be able to use the chopsticks, so I may not be able to eat anything. They don't give you forks there like they do in the Asian restaurants here. I really need to get a pair... set? so I can start practicing.
And the flight! It's a long, LONG flight! I can only watch so many movies before I get restless, and I'm not very good at sleeping on planes. I figure I'll go to the library and get about 5 books. That should be enough for the flight there and back. At least I hope so!
Sorry, I know I'm rambling a bit, but I'm very excited. It's coming up in 9 short days. We'll be gone from the 1st through the 13th. I'll still have internet though, I know you were worried. =]
That sounds exciting :-). Hopefully you'll enjoy the trip. And don't worry, I'm sure everything will turn out well.
I'm sure I'm fretting over nothing, but I figure if I at least think of all the things that will be hard, I won't be so surprised if it happens. My boyfriend will take care of me, he won't let me get thrown in Korean jail, lol.

I am so jealous! You'll have a blast!
As for the food, I am also a vegetarian and went to Egypt a year and a bit ago... I still to this day can not stand eating rice. I ate so much of it while I was there because there was very little else that I could eat.. oh man, you'll get so sick of it! But honestly, I'd do it again!!
Don't worry at all about the language if your boyfriend speaks Korean, just don't get separated from him!
What airline are you taking? Some of the big planes that take you way overseas like that have a little hang-out lounge so you can at least go and stretch your legs every so often!
Haha. Well if I have to eat a ton of rice, I should be able to get some hot sauce [delicious hot sauce!] to go with it. But then again, that might be taboo.
I definitely planned to be joined at the hip with him the entire time. Although he did say today he may send me off to a spa with some girls. Apparently he's going to make me some girlfriends. But hey, if it gets me to a spa!
And I honestly have no idea what the airlines are. I know, I probably should. But he made all the plans, I just had to get my passport. It's all still registering for me, I'm almost still in the dream-like state where I don't fully believe it. I do know that I get two meals [vegetarian, at least the planes do that!] and that each seat has a tv on the back of it, so the person behind you has their own TV with a wide selection of new movies. And whether boyfriend likes it or not, we're playing cards!
Adventure time!! Have a great trip!
I so want to visit that part of the world, so you better enjoy yourself for the both of us! I hope you have a great trip, and I sure you'll be fine if your boyfriend speaks Korean!
