- - Sport Ponies
I am an avid hunter/jumper rider and am constantly trying to learn more about the sport.
When I go to competitions, I love to see the little girls who have natural talent riding their little sport ponies.
I was curious, although there isn't one breed that is the best, what breeds of ponies typically are known for their ability to jump? I've hear about a lot of Welsh ponies.
Also what are some of the "big names" in the pony breeding world?

I like Welsh when it comes to hunter ponies. I know Mardi Gras & Marmaduke are two of the more poular stallions, imported from Wales. Mardi is a national champion and Marmaduke is an upcoming (imho) national champ.

The best jumping breed is generally thought to be the Connemara. They're the only breed of horse (to my knowledge) that had to jump often to survive in the wild... western Ireland is criss-crossed with stone fences.

I'm in the uk and the majority of competition ponies over here are Connemara, welsh or new forest, the Connemara's are usually the more sucsessful in the Professionally competetive Showjumping, 'The Irish Builder' is a fantastic young jumping stallion, Templebready Fear-Bui is an older very sucsessful stallion with lots of offspring out competing in all disaplines and doing well, and on the welsh side the Nebo and Derwen bloodlines are usually the ones jumping rather than showing.

My girl has some Nebo! No wonder she's got it in her. ^_^
