breeding age

I have a 2yr old lipizzaner colt to be our future sire but would like to know the pros and cons of using him this year. I am in Australia so we are just coming up to our breeding season now.

The biggest con I can possibly think of is that he hasn't proven himself at anything by 2 years of age. My favorite phrase is that stallions have to 'earn their right to keep their balls.'

Absolutely this.

Agreed. Not only that, a 2 year old is mentally immature. The LAST thing I want a young colt learning before absolute respect and training is how to act like a stud. Training a young stallion is made 10x more difficult once they've learned how to use what they've got. It's much easier working with a stallion that's never been bred - the hormones are there, but the respect a human commands tends to over ride it a lot more then a stud who's learned what it's for. That's why I firmly believe ALL training should be done first, and I don't believe a 2 year old can be fully trained.
