Just a quick question...
well my old horse who was an 8 yr old QH/Appy was too much for me
since he had never ending energy. like no joke my BO had ridden him at a trot for 30 minutes straight and he wasnt even tired! i sold him to my friend and we both think he was gelded late. could never ending energy meen that he could of been gelded late?? also whenever he was introduced to a new heard he would hold his tail up high like a stud and prance around. what do you think?!
Some horses just have that type of personality. Blu would run around the track until he dropped....in shape or not. Their is a slight chance he could have been gelding late but I don't think that has much to do with energy. Although, I am no expert.
each horse has a different energy level. My fiance's horse is calm as can be and my mare is a wild at times. They're just like people in a way. Some are couch potatoes, while others just have to be up and doing things.
When my mare gets really excited she'll prance and hold her tail up high. My fiance's gelding does the same thing and he was gelded when he was born (or soon after)
my horse is a qhx arab and although not boysterous he has endless energy, will literally just continually go. I can ride out through the hills trotting and cantering for pretty well an hour non stop and he will still want to canter up the last hill... it is just him.
but my last horse was a tb and we (myself, his previous owner and present owner) think he is a rig. He carries on like a stallion around mares, will even try to mount mares with a full erection. he prances around when ever turned out into new herd or if new horse is added to a nabouring paddock. to ride he was the same endless energy but think that had more to do with being a tb than anything else.
I have a pony who has endless energy it was just his personality. For a while i thought he was proud cut too. But it ended up it was just him.
Re: Just a quick question...
Too much food (especially grain)
Hasn't been excersized in a while
Senses something different
My horse prances and holds his tail up as high as an Arabian would. That is that I do consider a Stallion thing. My boy isn't in a pasture with other horses due to we haven't had time to introduce him, but he prances even in his pasture by himself. Don't they look pretty doing that?
Do you have any history on the horse? Is he registered? The registration papers should give the date on when he was gelded...at least mine does.
Some horses just act like that all the time...some do have the unended energy and love to prance
Re: Just a quick question...
lol they are very pretty when they prance around like that. he wasnt registered that i know of. i bought him for $800 as a green horse. he would only take off with me on him in the pasture but on the dirt driveway he was fine...pretty weird lol
It's hard to say that him having been gelded late be the cause of all his energy.
I had a horse that was gelded late as well and he was a bit higher on the end of things but it was more along of him being more alert and and sensitive to things around him all due to him having been gelded late.
I think what you are going thru might just be due to your friend owning a very athletic and happy horse. :D
