There's hope for everyone
For the first time ever I'm posting a link and saying that any critique of anything is not requested, welcome or accepted.
I'm sharing this just because I'm so thrilled with the place that I am now.
Short back story, as a youngster I would ride just about anything, and try all sorts of things, but like a lot of people as I got older my nerves gradually got the better of me, until eventually I was totally grounded, couldn't ride at all.
5 years ago I started to get back into horses, first just being around them, then doing ground work, and then trying to get courage to get on. I spent countless hours, and walked many miles just walking a horse up to the mounting block, standing there trying to get brave enough to throw my leg over, then chickening out, and leading round in a circle again, and repeating all over again.
Eventually I managed to get brave enough to actually mount up there and started riding. Stangely enough it wasn't the 'supposedly child safe' Haflinger that led me into the light, but this spotty butt, the experienced rider only boy, that has led me from shivering chicken snivelling on the block thinking about riding.........to this
It may not be much to anyone else, but it was HUGE for me http://www.horsegroomingsupplies.com...es/biggrin.gif
That is awesome Golden Horse! And I am impressed because I am pretty much where you were.
I have 2 horses, spend all kinds of time grooming and doing ground work but am pretty nervous to get up and ride. Seeing this is quite an inspiration.
In fact, I just came in from riding my 17h gelding for the first time in weeks. Just walked around the roundpen with lots of changes of direction, halts and backing. Not much by any stretch but I felt good about it.
And I must say, that spotty boy is one of the prettiest appaloosas I think I've ever seen!
congrats! The horse is super cute!!
It's great you have so much fun with him and you two look good together!
The only "critique" from me  , how do you manage to jump in western saddle?! I did couple times on trail (well, my horse did to be precise), and it got me pretty good on front every single time. I guess I did something wrong there.
Good for you girl! Keep on riding that beautiful spotted baby!
LOL, that's my endurance saddle, no horn!!!
I do have an English saddle on order:oops:, if it turns up before next weekend, and if by a miracle it fits! I'm going to be entering the clear round jumping at the show I'm going to next week.
The 6" amd 12" class sounds good, if that goes well I may even go in the 18" class:lol:
Well done, GH! Horse is adorable, & I love that you two are in a happy partnership. Next, we request video of canter in arena, with lots of roll-backs along the fence. :)
You know I feel great every time I ride now, sometimes I just do walking and changes of direction and backing, in fact I did lots of that. Just now I'm working on my Walk Trot dressage tests for next weekends, and that helps to keep me focused.
Never put yourself down because you got up there and rode, to me it's about challenging yourself, and just doing the best that you can do on that day. I don't care that I can't gallop, or I've only loped a couple of times in the round pen. WHO CARES. If my horse was 17HH I would celebrate everytime I rode him, that's a long way up:lol:
You never know about the fit. The english saddle I got 3 years back out of blue is a good fit for both my girls per my saddle fitter. I hope yours will be a good fit as well!
Awww, I LOVE this post! Congrats! What a great accomplishment. Sometimes we just have to keep searching for the equine friend who brings the love of riding back to us.
Like you I was very nervous and afraid, despite the fact that I did pony club and was on equestrian teams all through school. Then I got out of the show world, found that falling started to hurt, and had lost my nerve. Thankfully, I met my equine pal last September and she has given me the confidence to ride and show again too! We do the open shows and I started with the 18" crossrails and now we are going 2'.
Isn't it a great feeling? Keep on having fun, you two look great :)
