How much do you feed your horse?
Just wanted to know how much hay does everyone give their horse. Sonny gets 4 flakes a feeding, but someone mentioned that that was alot...so I wanted to see what the majority of you all give.
both my horses get 2 flakes 2x/day, so 4 all together, but they get different amounts of grain.
i think it all depends on the horse and the management at your stable. But if you want to be safe, talk to your vet about it. She could really tell you what the best action to take to cut weight on Sonny.
I do know that the amount of feed is supposed to go by body weight, and that all food should be weighed, not measured. What i mean is, instead of giving lets say a total of 8 flakes a day, they should be weighed so you know the weight of it.
I hope thats not too confusing. If you need clarification, just ask
Yeah, both of mine get 2 flakes 2x/day.
Plus, they have round bails out in the field.
All of mine get 3 flakes each morning and night because it is winter and all the grass in the pasture is dead.
My horse had a hay belly when he was on a round bale. I don't really think it's a solution for a dead field. It just makes it worse, and it's not the healthiest. He gets 1 flake 2x a day and it's really helped trim him up, and his hair coat is improved.
About 2 flakes. :)
