Western boots-HELP! Which toe?
Yikes! Trying to find the right boots for my new western career....primarily reining classes. Which toe is the "in" fashion for showing in reining? I am pretty sure the pointed one is out, but then it gets all confusing.....round(then HOW round...)square.....Any advice would be helpful.
As an aside, I am also having a really tough time keeping my spurs where they belong. They fit snug on my boots, then when I ride they seem to slide up and down.:?
I wear slightly rounded toes but ??? In a pinch I tie my spurs down with a piece of twine or a rubberband but they do make spur chains and spur keepers to keep them down where they belong. My daughter has small feet and we have a hard time finding anything permanent so her's are held in place by zip cables or whatever those locking zip things are called.
square toed boots are coming into style right now, it was the round toe. But it's just perferance really. also agree with the above, rubber bands or spur keepers
I don't really think there really is an "In style" toe. I ride in two kinds of boots, depending on the outfit I'm wearing. I have a pair of Double H boots with a round toe and a pair of Ariats with a pointed toe, I bought them because they are really comfortable. I have two outfits and am kind of OCD about matching so depending on which show outfit I'm wearing (Red sparkly one of a black w/ pink designs) I'll wear either boots.
I would go with what is more comfortable for you first. If you have wider feet like I do, you might like a square toe better. If all else fails, a nice rounded toe (typical of what is seen on roper boots) is a safe way to go.
Thanks everyone! I am going to look at Ariats. I LOVE my paddock boots by them, and everyone say they are so comfortable. So, the search begins.....will have to suck it up tho and not be all "matchy matchy" for this weekends show.....:? Oh well. Hopefully we will perform better than we look.....:D
Square toe is definitely coming in, but that's not as important as how they fit you. If you're looking at Ariat, you'll undoubtedly find some you like. That said, make sure the pair you pick is designed for riding, because some of them aren't. (It's the soles.)
For your spurs, rubber bands work in a pinch, but I like the spur tie-downs I found in the Smith Bros. catalog. I'm sure other places sell them, too.
Thanks again-did find the spur straps-they def help! and am waiting for my boots to arrive.....:-)
