jarred is a trakehner!!!
many of you know the probs ive come across recently with possum etc well the guy who owns her is the same guy who we bought jarred from. finally yesterday he decided to give me some information (i think its because i said i wasnt happy about the possum thing and was looking into taking legal action if i can so all of a sudden he became helpful...not helpful enough to let me keep possum though :() anyways, ive been trying to get jarreds foal papers for a while so i can register him with the EFA but i would never get a response about it. i also wanted to know his breed (i knew he was wb but no idea what type) and i wanted to know his birthday. i didnt think i was asking too much but apparently i was lol but he finally coughed up the info and said he would get the foal papers to me soon. apparently they are in storage in another state from when he moved up here.

but i found out he is a trakehner. he has some good blood too from what the guy says but ill wait until i find out who his parents were before i believe that lol it makes sense though because ive been wondering where he got his chunkiness and short legs from lol i mean hes 17.3hh but he doesnt look like he has the legs for a horse that tall and he kinda looks a bit cobbish. now that i know hes a trakehner i can understand it lol

soooo, has anyone on here ever had anything to do with trakehners. someone made the comment to me last night that finding out he was a trak explained a lot of things. i had no idea what she meant because the conversation finished soon after that. could his breed explain his attitude, difficultness and stubborness etc lol. ive been doing a bit of reading around the net but its hard to find much info on them other than stud websites.

anyways if anyone has any experience working with them or knows heaps about habits, traits etc could you let me know :D

Traks are generally stubborn and hot, from my experience anyways.
And redhead Trakehners - stay away! haha just kidding...

stubborn and hot hey!! yup! thats jarred lol hes not really really hot but hotter than any other warmblood ive dealt with. why do they call breeds like selle francais and traks etc warmbloods when they are obviously hot lol i guess the breed itself is warm though. i think somewhere along the line there was thoroughbred or something in the traks ???? not sure though

ok, I'll chime in here since I own and breed Trakehners. There is a bad reputation in some parts of North America about this breed, and it is very unwarrented. Trakehners are the original German Warmblood, they are a VERY old breed of horse and are the basis of all of the other warmblood breeds. They are IN FACT the ONLY warmblood breed with a closed studbook. Meaning they do not let any other breed into the registry. Only TB and Arabian mares and stallions may be approved for breeding purposes to keep the blood refined. They are very athletic, courageous horses. They bond strongly with one owner and try their hearts out for you. They move exceptionally well and excel in dressage and eventing. They have a very regal and elegant way about them, they are the prettiest of the warmblood breeds. They are forward moving horses, sensitive to the aids and this can be mistaken for hot by amateur riders. This is a very desired trait in a horse for the experienced rider (grand prix riders strive for this in a horse) Some VERY famous horses are out and about in the sport world, and I'd bet that most of you don't even know that these horses ARE Trakehners!!! I'll name some.......
PAINTED BLACK, SUCCES, PERRON just to name a few!!
In eventing the most famous is WINDFALL!!
In jumpers the most famous of all time was ABDULLAH>
I could name hundreds more but I've run out of room!
So please do not bash this breed, they make an enourmous contribution to Olympic sports and breeding sport horses of today. They are wonderful horses!!

uummmmm, im pretty sure neither of us have bashed the breed. when i say he his hot i mean he is hot. im not an amateur and i understand the difference between hot and forward moving. jarred is pretty hot and not forward moving at the moment lol although he has his days but he is only green.

i am finding him to be very loyal and he does try very hard even if he gets things backwards sometimes lol he has beautiful gaits and is such a pleasure to ride even when he is being a little naughty hehe

thanks for your input. i had no idea that so many traks were so famous :D

In fact, if you'd like to read a VERY interesting history and rundown on the breed, see it here. It's worth a read!! And for what it's stallion Pacific is a 6th generation son of Pythagoras. (one of the founding stallions of the breed) You can read about Pythagoras on this site.

cheekyhorse, I wasn't bashing Traks... my good friend owned one, and he was calmer than my TB mare.
