Stiff movement in back legs
I do some exercising riding on an 18y quarter horse mare. She's always had an extremely low headset which is supposed to engaged to hind end, but in her case it doesn't. She is really hard on her front legs as if she thinks her back legs are just for decoration or something. she's had mild laminitis and my mother does corective trimming on her. So to me it seems like she should be putting more weight on her back legs becouse of the pain in her front, but she doesn't. Her owner rides her some now and she's tender footed so she has front boots. I'm starting to think she might have arthritis, but she doesn't seem to be getting worse just always the same. I don't want to be riding her if she's in pain, but its hard to tell because she's such a sweet mare.
A low head set has nothing to do with using the hind end. That is all about collection. QHs are often built with a low headset. Do a search on collection and see what comes up. The heavy on the front is typical of a horse not collected.
Her diet may need to be totally revamped if shes had laminitis and her feet are still tender. If the diet has not been adjusted the laminitis will continue.
