Name Plates on saddles

I just bought a really nice used saddle and I love everything about it except the name plate on the back that has somebody else's name on it. Is it hard to change a name plate on a saddle? Am I better off having someone else do it? Does anyone have experience doing this to pass on? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Easy-peasy. All you have to do is get the same size of plate engraved at a tack store or even a small store like the 'Things Engraved' kiosks. The plate should be held on by teeny tiny little screws, just take that one off and put yours on. If you can't find the exact same size, go bigger on your plate so it will cover the hole marks.

Yes, and they're easy to remove. I bought 2 used saddles that came w/ nameplates on them. SUPER easy to remove...one just popped out w/ a butter knife, the other unscrewed w/ a butter knife or jeweler's screwdriver (flat-head). You can also find them on ebay priced really well.

I just re-plated my saddle. The plate itself cost me $7 to have made. The only thing I regret was actually trying to put the new plate in.... LOL....

Mind you, we didn't have a hammer. So all we could find was a plaster knife and tried to use the end of it...

Needless to say it was a hilarious event I will never forget. As long as you have a hammer you'll be good. Just take the patience to make sure it's aligned straight. As for removal? Easy peasy. Just pull the plate out with a butter knife as suggested - the two tacks should come out with hardly any issue!

PS: My plate turned out awesome...even with our plaster knife debacle!

We took my daughter's name plate to a jeweler and they actually used the same one with my aunt's name on it and smoothed it out and engraved my daughter's name on the same plate. It was about $15 total.
