My mom has recently offered up the idea of lap band surgery to help me lose weight. At first I was thinking "hell no" now it's a maybe... From what i know it's a simple procedure where they make a small incision and put a band around your stomach. It's covered by most insurance companies as well. I've never had any surgries. Thats the main thing holding me back. I excersize ALOT, but never loose weight. Even back when I was running 3 or more miles a day ( not all at one time, but I was on varsity softball, track, and powerlifting and they all are in the same season and all have alot of running, especially softball) I never lost weight. just stayed the same. Now that I'm not running that I have gained about 20lbs. I still excersize, just not to that extreme. I sprained both of my ankles ( at diffrent times) in softball my senior year and running is pretty painful for me now. I try to not eat fast food and eat something healthy when I have to eat on the go. Anyways I'm getting off topic. Does anyone know about the Lap Band? Has anyone had this done? Should I consider it? I weight 240lbs and Stand 5'6 and I'm 19. I want to lose weight for health reasons while I'm young (it also wouldn't be bad to see the look on my fiancees face once I'm at a healthy weight lol.). I just don't know if I can do it without help.
Ugh. I'm at a crossroad. Is this too extreme? Especially since I'm young? Or is there nothing wrong with it? Should I? Shouldn't I? HELP!
You are very young for such a procedure but I would suggest you go speak to a bariatric surgeon. I had gastric bypass, at 35, because i was 335 lbs and could not lose. I lost 60 lbs before surgery on a protein shake diet prescribed by my dr. It's a product called prescriptfit.
Good luck with your decisions. I honestly can say I am glad I did it, I'm in the 150s now less than a year later and healthy as a horse!!
