no critique on the horse, he looks gorgeous, but I see quite the chair seat on your part in the after picture :)

He looks like he has more muscle in his neck, but his hind end still seems a little on the slim side. Maybe some hill work would benefit him.

And I agree, in the picture on the bottom, you are in a chair seat. Try rocking your pelvis forward and bringing your leg under your body. Good luck with him! :)

he's definitely filled out and you two look more comfortable. looks more balanced and his hind end appears to be stronger. the first picture he's really on his forehand and the second picture he's using himself more. Keep up the good work!

oh wasnt gunna repeat the above ^ but the chair seat is a bit of a problem! :/ & his neck looks amazing.

I agree with the others, lovely neck, but his backside seems the same. It also looks like he's working a little more on the forehand...try getting him working from his hindquarters and you will probably also see an improvement in the muscling of his hind end.

Otherwise, he looks real great. Much better positioning of the head. Nice boy.

thanks everyone. I have only just started working him in an arena. mainly in the last few months we have been working on getting him quiet and desensitizing him to things on a trail ride. I do realise that my seat is pretty bad .i dont want to sound like i am making excuses though since i changed saddles, this is the position that my stock saddle puts my body in. will be changing back to an all-purpose in the next week. I will work on his hindquarters. :)

I am quite impressed at the change in his neck. He is also holding it in a much nicer position, not so flat. I am trying to help my OTTB develop more neck muscle. Is there anything specific you have been doing that you think has contibuted most to that?

ericka 09-13-2010 10:52 PM

not particularly. He is part quarter horse and he matured quite late so i think that's what it is a lot. but i hae been getitng him to bend his head and body around my legs when we go around a corner etc. and i have been doing a lot of lateral flexion. and he is much more flexible. before he had no bend in his neck. but i thikn that most of that is the way the he has matured.
