Introducing the foals...................
I had purchased a weanling this spring. A bay filly. I was called the other day when the breeders called and said it looks like she has a hernia. :( I was devistated. I told them that I didn't want her and that I would take the colt I was suppose to get for training their horse in trade for the filly. (See his story in http://www.horseforum.com/horse-pict...ddition-63049/ )
Here he is. No name yet. He's a dun quarter horse.
When I get to the breeders to pick him up, they offer me the filly I was suppose to gotten as well for $50. I asked if they had felt the hernia to see how big/bad it was and they said no. They said they couldn't get into the stall to touch her without her climbing the walls. They told me it would take 4-5 days of working with her before you could touch her enough to see how big it was. I walked into the stall and knelt down. She came over to sniff me and I slowly picked up the lead rope. I stood up, she kinda freaked a little bit, but then stood there. I started petting her neck and down towards her body, until in less than 2 minutes, I could touch her hernia. After that, she followed me anywhere. I opened the stall door, and she followed me out. I walked down the barn isle and into the trailer and she followed me like I was her best friend. I was so impressed by her heart and bravo that I couldn't say no. Specially for $50. So here's Lark.
Btw. The breeders were arguing on what color she might be. The lady there said she was sure she was going to turn a smutty buckskin and her SIL said he was sure she was going to be a bay. Her mother was a dun and her father was a buckskin. What do you think?
I love her big bootie!!!
Here is a photo of her hernia. She will be having surgery for it within the next 2 weeks.
And them together:
They are both adorable! She looks like a bay to me.
Awww they are both so cute! And for $50...I love her build! I hope she has an easy speedy recovery!
I can't wait to get her surgery done. Will post after surgery pictures.
Plains, you seriously need to stop picking up all these gorgeous horses. You're making my fingers itch to horse shop and I really can't afford another horse right now......
They are adorable!!
Thats awesome for $50 and shes adorable.. they both are.. jeese i wish horses where that cheap here!! WELL even though i got mine for free.. but i mean the ones you can pick from!! Surgery pretty pricey?
gorgeous babies! you must have the best looking heard in your state. MN tigerstripes, im thinking the same thing lol. now i want to go look for foals.
LOL, I know Reining Girl. I keep thinking "Well, a foal won't be that expensive over the winter... And it won't need to be broken for a couple of years. I can do all the groundwork, prelim, and I have a trainer friend (and my dad to help if I run into problems)...." Most of all I keep thinking "Awwwww, cute BABY, I WANT one!!!!"
Then I remind myself that I really need to focus on Soda (he is doing awesome) and Lily needs a lot of work this winter. Maybe next year....
Nice looking foals. I second the bay as color.
