Horses just know how to make you smile
Horses just make you feel better. Today i was upset (Just family issues) so i went out to Jacks paddock to talk to him (seeing as he is the only one that listens). Usually he wont stop eating for anyone and yet because i was crying he came trotting over and just stood with me. Then he started wiping my tears away with his nose and was nudging me to stand up. When i didnt he stood over me and placed his head in my arms. He knew i was sad and was trying to make sure i was Ok. He stood like that until i forgot about why i was crying and was just smiling so hard at the the compassion and understanding he showed towards me. I continue to be amazed with a horses understanding of emotion. They may not understand emotion to the extent a human but they can tell when we ourselves are scared, sad, angry or happy. They go out of there way to help us and try to understand. Its like he gets reassured when im happy.

My other pony Alex once laid down by my side while was sitting with him in his stall and fell asleep with his head on my lap. Becaus i just needed time away from home.

Does anyone else have stories of a being sad (ect) and having a horse by your side.

No real sad stories. But I feel my mare and I are so closely bonded that we think alike. I know it may be impossible but we are really connected. If I am feeling down I will go out and sit with the horses by the barn. She will come up and stand near me.

Both of my guys have been there for me when I've been sad. Rosie, when I got the call that my daughter had joined the AF. I had all kinds of emotions going on that day when I got there, and she buried her head in my chest and stayed there until I moved away. Then Rookie, the day after I bought him, wouldn't let me pass him in the pasture. I had just found out that my cat had died, and walked in there sobbing. He kept weaving to keep me from passing. When I stopped, looked at him, and asked him what, he walked up and rested his head on my shoulder. He stood there while I hugged him and cried into his neck. Today has been pretty emotional for me also. Both of them were crowding me. I had one arm under Rosie's neck and one under Rookie's neck, hugging, crying, and talking to both. They are my therapists.
