Is this reasonable/unreasonable?
Where I work now there are 12 horses on the property, but it is soon to be going up to 16 horses. Here's my problem: I'm paid for two hours worth of work, that's two hours to get all paddocks clean, waters scrubbed and refilled, horses in and fed, which boils down to 10 minutes per paddock, and even though I do have help to bring them in, I'm always a bit late getting off (but get paid only for the two hours worth of work). So what happens when there are 16 horses? 7.5 minutes per horse (paddock, water, feeding and turn in) I don't think that's reasonable, personally? I don't know how long it should take... and maybe I'm just slow, but for most of the horses it's a 1-2 minute walk from paddock to barn and I'm just curious as to what you guys think?
Tell them more horses equal more money. Don't let them run over you.
Definitely they should be paying you more when the new horses come in.
that's definitely unreasonable. i think they should give you time to work as well.. it's not fair to rush you. rushing to fit 3 hours worth of work into two hours is going to cause mistakes and frustrate rushed horses.. discuss this with your boss!
I can not tell if they are being unreasonable with out having a better idea of exactly what you are doing in two hours. Are the horses in individual paddocks? How large are the paddocks? What does cleaning them include?
To me two hours seems like enough time to clean paddocks (no bedding involved, just picking up manure piles), cleaning/filling water and having help bringing the horses in.
I am guessing they pay for the amount of time they feel the world should take. Which is sometimes necessary when you have experienced slow workers (not saying you are OP) who cost you substantially more than they should when paid by the hour to do what should have taken half the time.
