I am currently studying in Austria, Europe and am just curious to ask those of you who are in Europe about riding internationally.
I would love to make the most of my time here and find great places to ride and learn.. but where to start?!
I will be/have been traveling through Austria (obviously), Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy, Czech Republic and potentially Spain and England.
Any good references you can tell me about, or even riding schools to visit (Such as the spanish riding school here in Vienna), that are worth a stop?
If you are coming to Denmark I would recommend you to go visit the vestcoast of Jutland. There are some incredible beaches!
It is very popular to go on a weekends ride on icelandic horses:
JSAV - you say nothing about your age, experience or riding competence.
Are you wanting to watch, visit or ride?
If you book at an English riding centre, then they will bring out a horse and you are expected to ride it. The question then is whether you will enjoy the ride.
Be much more explicit in what you are looking for.
In Spain go to Andalucia near Jerez and ask in the tourist office. You'll find both German and English run riding centres on Spanish horses. Magnificent
Wales especially the Brecon Beacons offers some of the best riding in Europe but you would have to get there - the centres are in the middle of nowhere.
Ride a fiery Welsh Cob where they are bred. Fantastic
England - well if you have the money you can even ride in London - everything you are like to want to do is available in England. You name it, you can probably do it. You can even ride Western if you want to
But what do you want to do?
The cost of riding in Britain is the only draw back but the British do everything on horseback that it is normal to do on horseback. So take your pick.
