height question--someone please answer this question.
I was riding my horse yesterday and wanted to see what her height was...ummm, well my horse has NO withers but she is big built and looks tall but we measured her at 14.1 hands with the tape. I mean is that possible for a horse to look taller but because of no withers she only stand 14.1? I see a lot of small horses and they are 14.1 but look really small but have withers so does it just depend?
First of all, all horses have withers...I'm assuming your mares blend more with her neck/back? I this is all a little confusing.
Where did you put the tape to measure her?

You mean she is mutton withered...with no shark fin sticking up off her back. Sounds stupid but some horses just 'ride tall'. Scooter is 14.1 and I never feel too big for him. Nico was 14.2 and I frequently felt a bit too large on him. Cole is 15.1 and I think he is short. LOL Its all perception.
I think bigger barreled horses seem taller
she's worth more if she's a large pony then if she were a small horse, so that's cool.....
well i meant no withers as being mutton withered..my bad. I thought ppl would understand what I was saying.
I measured her at her tiny little wither and she was 14.1 hands...I am going to re-measure her to make sure.
Lots of QHs and Paints are under 14.2 and are built like and ride like horses and can carry full sized adults.
I suspect your Gidget is one of those.
Nothing to worry about, if you show her you can show her in a pony or a horse division.
And farmpony's right, if you ever sell her; the fact that she measures as a pony is a plus.
Oh, and BTW, those tapes aren't very accurate. You need a real stick, with a carpenter's level.
