So awhile ago I saw a posting on Craigslist from a lady asking if there was anywhere she could ride in exchange for cleaning stalls. I don't need anyone to clean my stalls because I don't mind doing it but I e-mailed her telling her that she could surely come out and ride. She came out and loved the horses and was excited that she could bring her kids out and let them play in my huge completely fenced in backyard while she rode. After getting a release I put her on Annalie to see what she did or didn't know. We went over a few things and I turned her lose in my little fenced off "riding area".

She was coming out maybe two to three times a week. Well one day she told me that she was going to start "volunteering" at this riding stable. She would be cleaning out stalls and helping them move horses around. I asked if they were paying her and she said no, I asked if she got to ride the horses and she said no. She told me that she wanted to volunteer there because she wanted to get away from her kids and she needed a break. Since I had told her that my youngest son's naptime is the best time for her to come out she was coming out around noon. I told her that she was welcome to start coming out in the evening once I was sure she was able to control the horse to be sure that neither she nor my horse would be hurt. I left it at that.

Well she was supposed to come out a couple days after that but didn't show up. I shot her an e-mail asking her if everything was okay and if she wanted to come out the following evening because my husband would be off work. She e-mailed me back saying her son had a bad day and she would call me or e-mail me and let me know when she was coming out next. I didn't contact her until a week later, I e-mailed her again telling her the farrier was coming out and if she was interested in watching him trim the horses because she had mentioned it before. She never replied.

When she was riding here I told her that she would need some of her own things. She brought with her a brand new helmet, some boots and a couple brushes. About two weeks after she didn't reply to my farrier post I e-mailed her asking her if she wanted to come get her stuff since it seems she wasn't coming back. She never answered. This has been about a month now and she hasn't answered my e-mails and she didn't answer my one phone call. I know she is reading my e-mails because I have been checking their status in case maybe something happened where she was unable to get to a computer or phone.

I guess my question is how long would you give her to pick up her stuff before removing it or claiming it as your own? Should I send her another e-mail concerning the stuff?

Send her a certified letter in the mail stating she has 30 days from receipt to pick up her items or you will dispose of them at your will. That way she can't say she wasn't notified.

That's what I was thinking but I wasn't sure.
