Copper bit and chewing...

Could copper inlay on a bit cause a horse to chew on the bit more?

Yes, of course! It definitely makes the horse salivate more (which is why they're banned in Dressage!) and it can make certain horses become more "mouth-active"

My horse gnawed on his copper bit so much that I had to switch and he chewed the bit apart, somehow he maneuvered the bit deep into his mouth and chomped on it, so now the metal is snarly and I can't use it.

Really?! I had no idea! How would they know if you were riding in say,.a french link and just the middle part was copper? And are sweet irons or the KK Herm Sprenger Aurigan bits banned as well?
