I went to look at a horse today (to get) and I liked him a lot.
A problem with him was that his off-hind fetlock was puffy, and reasonably warm to the touch (warmer than his other). He let me feel and squeeze it and did not show any signs of pain. He did not appear lame.
He's three and lives in a bushy paddock with some other horses so I was thinking that perhaps he was fooling around and just kicked a stick or tree or something? There felt like there might be something like a tiny scab but I am not sure..
On his front cannon there was also a little lump around a scab so I believe he knocked himself there too - there was no heat or swelling.
Is this likely to be what happened? What else could this be a symptom of? The owner said that she had not noticed it before.
If I decide to go ahead with him I think I will get a vet check to check - he's a free horse but I don't want a lame horse. Just like to hear input.
