Attention Saddlebred Owners!
There is a Saddlebred at my lesson barn that is for sale, and I am considering purchasing. I rode her for the first time today and so far I L-O-V-E this horse. She is wonderful. Such a fun ride, and a loving temperament.
I would like to hear stories about your Saddlebreds, and your experience with the breed. The good/bad/ugly/funny/tips/advice... everything is appreciated. I want to learn all I can.
AAAHHH, Saddlebreds.
I still rember the first time I saw one.
I have had several over the years. All I own is arabs and saddlebreds.
Saddlebreds are very in tune with their people. Always wanting to please you. They rember everything you do, If your good to them theyll be good to you. They tend to have a lot of go and animation. There is a lot more versatility to the breed than people think. The do well in all type of diciplines. Gaining popularity with the H/J and dressage people. I do know of one thats doing endurance too.
There are a lot of myths about the breed.
We dont force their heads up, they are built to have a PROUD headset!
They are NOT all gaited. Some are, but not all.
We dont break their tails, a tendon is knicked. The tail works just like normal, just afterwards they can raise it higher.
The shoes are not as heavy as some breeds. And it is legal to show barefooted.
Here are a couple of good sites to learn about the breed.
Good luck, I LOVE the breed and will NEVER be without atleast 1 or 2.:-P

Thanks SaddleDragon! I'm very excited about this horse. I take lessons in western pleasure/trail competition and my trainer recommended this horse to me, and she really doesn't care for many breeds outside of QH's.
She needs some fine tuning of course, because she was an English pleasure horse before, but she has a good slow jog, and comfy lope, and best of all she is great with her feet so trail obstacles are no problem for her. The versatility is definitely there!
If you get her, get on the trot link I sent you. They are asb people and they LOVE to see asb's doing things like that.
She must be GREAT, Ive never met a QH person that would recommend one. They are 2 totally diffrent breeds alltogether!
