BLANKET WASHING- soap or no soap or what?
I am washing Mr. Citrus' winter blanket again today but cannot remember if I use laundry detergent or not..... does any one know- I don't want to ruin the waterproofing it was made with.
I never use soap on blankets, just a hose and a brush is needed.
I prefer Dreft. Antibacterial and rinses clean
If I do not have Dreft, I will use my regular detergent. I run the first cycle with soap and a second cycle with just water.
Hang to dry.
Citrus, if you want to keep the waterproofing, use double or triple the amount of fabric softener.
My SO told me this trick, and it really works. He's an aeronautical mechanic and gets all sorts of jet fuel and oil on his uniforms. He uses extra fabric softener so that stuff will run off his uniforms instead of being absorbed.
I use normal laundry detergent usually. Sometimes I splurge and buy the Petastic laundry detergent. Works great on the smell.
If you know the brand of your blanket I am guessing you can google the proper washing instructions to maintain the water proofing.
Thanks for the fabric softener idea, SR. I wonder how I would do that with my front loader.
Thanks everyone- I am using a commercial size washer at a laundry mat, so washing twice will mean I have to sit around for two hours.... ugh... I am going to do the wash and then triple the fabric softner!!!!!!
According to the tag on my new Rambo blanket, commercial washer, cool water, VERY mild soap.
