I really dont understand american jumpinggand shows...
What is hunter jumper?
Hunt Seat?
Short stirup?
all that stufff... it confuses me..

we have hack shows, where we ride around on the ring and the judge picks a few people to do a work out walk/trot/canter... and then the best are given ribbons...
and we have showjumping at shows... where you jump a course... i really dnt underssand the stuff that happens in america haha

As far as I know Hunter Jumper is similar to Jumping Equitation if you do pony club, but the others I'm not entirely sure of.

Short stirrup is for young riders on ponies.

I believe that hunt seat judges the rider's form

hunter is based on how the horse looks and how the rider looks

jumpers are all about speed and accuracy

Adding to Drew's post...

Short Stirrup is for kids under 12. They do not wear tall boots but paddock boots and garters. Most wear their hair in pig tails with big bows as well.

Hunter judges the horse. Hunter Equitation judges the rider. Hunters should be well mannered, have a nice flowing canter, hit the center of each jump, get the correct striding (no chipping in or taking off long)... Jumps are of a natural look...stone walls, brushy jumps, gates. In an Eq class you might have to halt somewhere in the course or take a fence at a trot.

Jumpers are jumpers are jumpers no matter where you are in the world. :) Speed and faults. The only difference between countries is how people ride. Normally, North Americans ride in a more forward seat where Europeans are in a full seat. Jumps are bright and colourful.

Hunters are judged on the horse, how they move and jump. They have over fences and flat classes for the hunters, more flat kneed movement is preferred. Jumpers is showjumping. Short stirrup is for younger riders, I believe it is riders under 12, they have hunter and equitation classes, they usually have two flat classes and two over fences over cross rails. Hope that explained it.
