Mixing meds

I plan on calling the vet when they open in the morning, but I was just wondering if you guys have any experience/have done this...

My yearling filly's cold became worse over the weekend, so I called the vet out again today. She seems to think that the initial virus opened her up to a bacterial infection... that's why she was sick, then looked better, then got worse. So, she left us with cough syrup and Tucoprim.

Cavalina is terrible when it comes to being dewormed so I knew oral meds were going to be a PITA. And it was.

She gets 2 doses - the cough syrup, which is very watery and the Tucoprim mixed with maple syrup, which is very thick.

So, I was thinking about mixing the Tucoprim with the cough syrup - that way it'll thicken the cough syrup and the Tucoprim mix won't be as thick as it is with the maple.

Any reasons you can think of why NOT to do this? It's all going to the same place, it'll be easier for Cav only getting 1 dose and not 2 and hopefully it won't be as messy. She would be getting the 2 doses back to back anyway, right before she eats her grain.

Thanks!

It is generally not a problem with oral meds. IV meds are when you worry about mixing as sometimes they chemically react and cause things like crystals to form. I'd check with the vet in the morning, but can't see a reason this would be a prob.
